Sunday 22nd October was the 4th consecutive running of Hafren CC hosting a round of the Welsh Cyclocross Series at Trehafren fields in Newtown. With some hard work by Hafren members on the Saturday under watchful eye of Paul Bufton, which included him organising the cutting down of part of a tree which was hanging precariously over the course….the event was on.

Sunday dawned grey and drizzly as predicted….but that’s nothing new to cyclocross riders and a good crew of members arrived at the venue at 7am to start assembling the course….of which half was on the flat alongside the river and the other half which ventured into the woods with plenty of tricky off camber corners, roots and the now infamous lactic ladder!! The place was soon buzzing with riders….helpers…mums..dads..kids..British Cycling Commissaires and even a scattering of spectators!

245 riders from all over Wales took part including 31 from Hafren  the best results of which were Kat Holwill 2nd in the novice women…..her son Sam 3rd in the youth….and Chris Roberts 4th in the senior men (incidently Chris is leading the overall senior mens league tables after 7 rounds!!)

There were lots of positive comments  on the Welsh Cyclocross facebook page regarding the course, which was in perfect condition even after all the recent rain.

Once again Hafren CC with Paul Bufton at the helm have organised another fantastic round of racing in the Welsh Cyclocross League which is growing in popularity year on year. Next the riders move on to Abergavenny for round 8
