Hafren at the Chrono

The first three days of this year’s Tour de France was a great showcase for the Vendée, showing what a great cycling area it is once you are away from the costal plain. The eagle eyed will have spotted Les Herbiers at 138km on Stage 2 and this is where the club is headed in October as we participate for the third year in Les Herbiers’ cycling festival and compete for the second year in the Chrono des Nations Time Trial.

As well as the world famous TT, the weekend includes 3 sportives (Randonées in French) on Saturday, a week of walls, exhibitions and food.

The club’s patriation on this is part of Newtown Twining with Les Herbiers so there are plenty of opportunities for anyone wanting to go to be hosted by a local family and share travel costs, making this a very affordable way to get some late season cycling in France, enjoy a cultural exchange and support club riders in this prestigious event.

This year we will also be going as “Guest of Honour” of the Chrono. Anyone who goes represents both the Club and the Newtown Twining Association who are going as Guest of Honour this year.

The Chrono, Les Herbiers Twining and the general population are warm, welcoming and friendly. You don’t need to speak French to have a great time.

Pulling this together takes some organizing, so if you are interested in the trip or want to know more please e-mail membersfirst@hafren.cc
