Hafren CC – Cycle Sport for all in Mid Wales and the Marches

Hafren CC is a not for profit, Community Amateur Sports Club whose members participate in and support a wide range of cycle sport and cycling activities. Here is some of what we do

Club Rides Club Rides are a year round activity for club members. Rides are on Sunday mornings with starts alternating between Newtown and Welshpool. The regular A and B rides are supplemented by Women only rides (often on a Saturday) Check out the pages on the site for more information Club Rides and Women’s Cycling

Time Trials Hafren CC holds a season long Time Trials (TT) series run under CTT regulations. The results on the night also count towards the season long points competition for club champion, age related and women’s categories. We also host an Open TT and members compete in SCCA open events throughout the season. Although Time Trialling is a specialist part of cycle sport for some, you don’t need special equipment to do it. It’s a great way to start racing and anyone who does soon learns why it is called ‘The Race of Truth’

Women’s Cycling Hafren CC has an active Women’s section, which aims to provide opportunities for women cyclists to ride, race and train. The club has British Cycling qualified Women coaches who run regular women only coaching sessions and women only rides in addition to the open to all Sunday club rides. We also champion Breeze and often promote Breeze rides (details are posted on our Facebook Group) and provide women only coaching sessions. Visit the Women’s Cycling page to find out more

Go Ride As well as being affiliated to British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials, Hafren CC is a British Cycling Go Ride Club. “Go-Ride is British Cycling’s development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills.”

Hafren Juniors is for riders from 5 to 16. We provide regular Saturday coaching sessions provided by our team of British Cycling qualified coaches. A summer Grass Track League and Cyclo-Cross event are just two of the opportunities for our Juniors to race

Road Racing Hafren riders can be seen competing in local Road Races and Criterions.  As a club with a racing pedigree members are able to help each other develop the skills and fitness required for this tough sport

Sportives Ride London, Velothon Wales, Kilo to Go, Rise Above – there will be plenty of Hafren riders for company in the event and on the training roads before. Keep an eye on the Facebook group to find out who is taking on your favourite sportives and join us in the red and white

Off Road Hafren members take on some of the toughest off road challenges. Trips to the major Mountain Bike centres in Wales, Dyfi Enduro, Batch Burner, Aber Festival of Cycling Down Hill. If fat tyres and mud are your bag, ride with Hafren

Cyclo-Cross Hafren CC hosts a round of WCCL Cyclo Cross series. Club members compete in the league and other local CX events through the season. From kids to grandmothers, all age groups can be seen tackling these mud fests, with race categories from under 8 to over 50, this really is racing for every one

Grass Track Racing Hafren hosted its first grass track league this summer (August 2015) A great success with junior age categories, open and women’s events this was an exciting and challenging race series, competitively raced by all and watched in August sunshine by family, friends, club members enjoying picnics. More next year!

Fundraising The club adopts and supports a charity each year. Regular money is raised by donations for cakes (baked by members or their partners) provided at the end of TTs and other events. Club members also ride sponsored events. In 2013 we raised over £2,500 for Wales Air Ambulance and 2014 we raised over £2,000 for our currently adopted charity Severn Hospice
