It was all change at the top of three tables in Round 4 of the SB Sports Injuries Series – with Bryn Davies rising to the top in both overall and Veterans’ Series. The Hafren CC rider took a fine win in the North Shropshire Wheelers Hawkstone Hilly 19, making light work of the lumpy and technical circuit at first attempt to give himself a 14 point lead overall – as well as a 16 point lead in the Veterans with his +4:26. Davies charged around the Lower Prees – Hawkstone circuit in 45 minutes 44 seconds to put 43 seconds into runner-up Richard Kay – but it nearly didn’t turn out that way thanks to Davies familiarising himself with the course. He explained: “It was definitely worth the journey, though I wasn’t expecting to go so well. I’d felt flat all weekend and I’d already done a warming up lap as I missed the event start – I only just got to the line in time. Numpty“!

Kay meanwhile made his first entry into the SB Series of 2016 and had home advantage, but despite gaining the runner-up spot in both overall and Veterans with 46:27 and +3:33 respectively couldn’t do anything about Davies’ fine turn of form. Kay was generous in his comments however stating: “A great ride by Bryn considering he hadn’t ridden the course before. I on the other hand should have done better seeing as it’s on my doorstep“!

It was the same 1-2-3 in both Overall and Veterans with Mid Shropshire Wheelers’ Simon Harrison taking advantage of the fine morning with just a warm, light southerly breeze to contend with. Reigning Series Champion Harrison elevated himself to equal 2nd in the overall standings thanks to his 47:12 effort and 4th in the Veterans after finishing just eight seconds behind Kay in what is shaping up to be a very tight contest with Harrison after retaining those honours.

There was also a new leader in the Ladies Championship with Tracey Billington taking the win from Caroline Lloyd to overtake Wrekinsport club mate Emma Robinson by a slim two points. Billington stopped the watch on 1:02:32 to beat Lloyd by 1:57 and was delighted with her win, commenting: “It was great to win on a testing and challenging course on a beautiful day with fabulous company. Well done to Caroline, and thanks to North Shropshire Wheelers for hosting the event”.

In the Junior Championship Sam Morris added a huge 20-point advantage to his Junior Series lead which now extends to 24 points. Morris competed well amongst the more experienced riders with his light weight helping him to 5th spot overall in an impressive 47:41 – on a course that evidently suited him. He explained: “The race went brilliantly for me, I absolutely loved the course – especially the twisty descents! A big thanks to everyone running the event and helping so early in the morning”.
