Sunday was the final round of the Welsh CX series which was held at Llandaff Campus in Cardiff. Having spent 4 years studying there it should have been home turf advantage. However it appears that the sports field was located beyond the campus bar and therefore this was my first visit.

Completing his first season in cx Max Bufton went off in the under 8’s and made short work of the off-camber technical sections. He is hoping santa will bring him a cx bike, so that he can carry that same speed on the straights.

A good ride saw Max finish in 13th and take 12th place overall for the season.

The conditions in the senior race made for a tough race with lots of heavy going. As I lined up at the start I notice a couple of unfamiliar faces, batman, robin and the riddler had all entered. 50mins of hard work and my first season as a cross racer was done.

Pleased to have finished 54th overall in the league, thoughts turn to next year and how best to make up those few places to the top 50.

Congratulations also go to Nick Huband who was the other Hafren rider who competed in the required 6+ races in the league, who finished a very respectable 77th overall.
This racing was great fun and with a league as friendly as the Welsh League and a good variety of courses I would recommend it to everyone next year
