Freewheel Grasstrack League Round 1

The sun shone on round 1 of Hafren CC Freewheel Grasstrack League. Forty four riders from a number of clubs took to the grass oval and provided a great’s night racing. The juniors and youth riders kicked the evening off on a shortened oval and took part in the ‘flying lap’, scratch and elimination races. Of particular note was the large turnout in the u8’s category with 14 riders taking to the start line and showing promising signs for future of cycling in our area.

As the shadow’s grew longer it was the turn of the adults to test themselves on the 400m oval. In a new format for 2016 riders were split into two groups in accordance with their times in the flying lap, which worked well and led to some exciting racing in both groups. The highlight was the longest lap and the evening was topped off by the elimination race.
