Rain before the start suggested that this weeks time trial was going to be a wet affair, but race organiser Tony Brooks worked his magic and pretty much all competitors ‘enjoyed’ a dry nights racing.

Winner on the night was guest rider Gary Duncan, whose 23 minutes 20 seconds pipped first Hafren rider home Ian Coe by just 8 seconds. Second on the Hafren podium was Graham Harris in 23 mins 45 seconds, who narrowly beat Pete Thomas into third by just one second.

The second half to the season looks like it is hotting up as both Ian Coe and Graham Harris seem to be hitting a rich vein of form. Pete Thomas who looked to have one hand on the championship early on in the season has slipped away a bit in recent weeks, but is this just the calm before the late season storm?

In the ladies competition again it was a guest rider who took top spot with Ceris Eslava stopping the clock at 26 minutes 57 seconds. Sahrah Wilding took the top spot on the Hafren CC podium with 29 mins 08 secs, toppling regular winner Jackie Harris by just 2 seconds. Rounding out the podium was Louise Downward who sadly just failed to break the 30 minute mark by 4 seconds. Diane Paul (34:29) also finished in a personal best time on the night. Hafren continue to attract and encourage lady competitors to give time trialing a go and its great to see that we are now achieving 5 or 6 riders on a regular basis.

Young Callum Stait at just 12 years old posted a very credible time on his first outing at a Hafren time trial, his 33 mins 28 secs is surely a precursor to greater things to come and we look forward to welcoming more youngsters like Callum to give it a go. (Please be aware though, you must be at least 12 years old to race on the open road)

Again thanks to all helpers on the night.

Next event is the Newtown 12.5 mile time trial on 1st July.

Meeting at the Town Centre Car Park, Newtown with sign on from 6:15 – 6:45. First rider off at 7pm.
