Wednesday 12th June saw Hafren CC hold round 8 of the Parker International Series in Welshpool as part of its ongoing time trial season. Steve York of Wrekinsport CC was on fire once more following four rounds entered, four rounds won.

A trip over the Welsh border for the Hafren CC 10 saw York take a clear victory in 22 minutes 7 seconds from a good field of 30 in less than ideal conditions. York commented: “I was very pleased with the win. It was straight into the wind on the return leg, with the last drag to the line seeming to take forever, and it was a bonus to stay dry with some seriously black clouds overhead“.

Jason Harland made it a Wrekinsport 1-2 with a fine effort of 22:49 to capture the runner-up spot on the evening, with this excellent ride lifting him into joint second place overall – level with Tom Garbett. The North Shropshire Wheelers’ youngster had the closest of calls, having to settle for fifth place in 23:43 after just failing to beat Series leader Richard Nickless by two seconds and with Fraser MacKinnon racing to a personal best just one second behind in spite of conditions. Nickless extended his Series lead by a slim two points to eight points over Garbett and Harland in what is a really tight table. Garbett increased his lead at the top of the Junior standings as consolation.

There was a great turnout from the home riders with 20 members taking to the start line. Medwyn Jones was the highest placed HCC rider, using that local knowledge to good effect to take third on the night in 23:26. But there was a good show from Junior riders too with Max Gethin the runner-up behind Garbett in 24:10. This maiden entry into the 2013 Series saw Gethin leap straight into third spot in the Junior standings.

With three Ladies in competition amongst a 30-strong field Tracey Billington made the most of things to extend her Series lead – and take a win on the evening. Billington stopped the watch on 28:39 for an excellent win with Diane Paul taking the runner-up spot in 34:06.
