Bryn Davies made it two wins on the trot in Round 3 of the SB Sports Injuries Series after slicing a further 16 seconds off his best time to be the only leading rider to better their Round 2 effort. The Hafren CC rider coped best with tough conditions, with competitors facing a stiff headwind on the long leg from Waters Upton to Hodnet, recording a fine time of 22 minutes 5 seconds – despite a hold up. The fast-improving Davies pushed out Series leader Craig Ball to narrow the gap at the top of the overall standings to just six points – and to just two points in the Veterans Series where the same two riders are locked in a head-to-head battle. Davies commented: “I was pleased to get the win again. It was similar conditions to the previous week so it was tough going out. I got held up a bit in traffic so I was surprised again at the time“.

Mid Shropshire Wheeler Ball was amongst the many riders who lost time thanks to that headwind, dropping 13 seconds on his Round 2 effort to end the afternoon on 22:47, 42 seconds back from Davies. But it was a closer gap in the Veterans Championship with Davies finishing in +4:04 with Ball back 34 seconds in this age-adjusted competition. Ball was quick to praise Davies’ ride stating: “Well done Bryn. I found it tough in the wind and most people were slower, yet Bryn has gone 16 seconds quicker. Fair play“!

Also getting in on the action amongst a 38-strong field was SCCA Private Member Dan Watts, who put in a huge effort as the finish line hove into view to finish third in 23:05, pushing reigning champion Simon Harrison into 4th spot a further 13 seconds back.

With six Ladies in competition Wrekinsport’s Emma Robinson got the best of a close-run contest with the top three split by just 10 seconds. Robinson stopped the watch on 27:40 to take a maiden win, pushing Oswestry Paragon’s Helen Tudor into runner-up spot by just seven seconds with Paramount’s Ceris Eslava a further three seconds back. Robinson stated: “I was really chuffed. It was a lot harder than in Round 2 with the headwind, but easy coming back where the wind helped a lot“. As a result of this fine effort Robinson moved into a 10 point Ladies Series lead.

In the Junior Championship it was a straight head-to-head between Revolutions Racing’s Sam Morris and Mid Shropshire Wheeler Jordan Stamp. After sitting in joint first spot in the Championship after Round 2 Morris took over the lead on his own thanks to a fine effort of 24:05 – good enough for 8th place overall, with Stamp exactly two minutes back. Morris stated: “I was really pleased with my ride. It was really tough conditions on the way out, but great fun on the way back“!
