Four events in five days may have taken their toll on Bryn Davies but they didn’t stop his winning streak as the Hafren CC rider took home the bacon in Round 7 of the SB Sports Injuries and Physiotherapy Series. Held on the sporting Prees – Battlefield course, the North Shropshire Wheelers 25 saw Davies stop the watch on 58 minutes 10 seconds to extend his overall Series lead to 32 points – as well as his Veteran’s Series lead to 28 points after he finished in a fine +8:16. In both cases he proved once again to be the nemesis of the promoting club’s Richard Kay, with an excellent rivalry developing between the pair. Kay took runner-up spot in both competitions, ending the morning on 58:46 overall and +7:27 in the Veterans.

A philosophical Davies commented: “I was slower than last time out on that course but still pleased to get the win – Rich was hot on my heels though! Thanks to North Shropshire Wheelers for putting on the event and the marshals“. The friendly rivalry with Kay was demonstrated in his tongue-in-cheek comments as he added: “I thought Bryn was going to put more time into me than that considering his current form, so I’m quite pleased“!

Davies closest challenger in both Overall and Veterans is Tim Beardmore, who is having a great season. However despite being the only other rider to beat the hour on this tough, rolling course in 59:32 and finishing just eight seconds behind Kay in the Veterans on +7:19 Beardmore saw Davies stretch his lead by four points in each competition. The Bridgnorth CC rider will be hoping his form continues to improve as the season progresses.

In the Ladies it nearly wasn’t a win for the event winner following a misjudgement of her start time. Despite the rush to the start Pauline Hughes still managed to take the win in 1:08:41 in a fine season for the Revolutions Racing rider, seeing off a challenge from team mate Amanda Whitmore. Whitmore ended the morning in the runner-up spot after crossing the line in 1:10:20. A relieved Hughes explained: “I got the start time wrong, so no warm up for me and my legs felt tired. I found it tough. Luckily Amanda was not on form so I was pleasantly surprised with the Ladies win“.
