Great news from both Welsh Government and British Cycling

Hafren CC is pleased to announce that, after 26th April, we have the return of the Club Ride! The first of these will be the Wednesday Dole Ride which occurs, strangely, on a Wednesday. These rides are organised and run by Alun Roberts and he will be posting the location of the first ride shortly so keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for details.

Here is the current situation regarding Hafren CC Club Runs. We have a Covid-19 Officer whose duties include collating and retaining attendance forms, liaising with ‘Test, Track and Protect Service’ and ensuring that Government guidelines are adhered to.  We also have several Covid Awareness Course trained ride leaders.  To comply with Welsh Government regulations all rides will be risk assessed and a responsible person (ride leader) must be present.

These rides, together with the well established Sunday Club Ride can only go ahead at this time because they are ‘Organised Group Activities’ run under the sanction of Welsh Cycling (the National Governing Body) and therefore the Club has to adhere to the Welsh Government regulations and guidance in order that the activity complies with the law in Wales and that the ride leaders are insured.

Anyone who has recently attended one of our group activities will be well aware of what is required of the Club and all attendees to ensure a safe and, hopefully, enjoyable return to group riding. These include all attendees providing written details for the purpose of Test, Trace and Protect scheme, strict social distancing to be adhered to during the ride and any coffee breaks, numbers to be limited, no equipment sharing and self sufficiency. All participants will be required to be members of Hafren CC or riding as part of the ‘try before you join’ scheme used by the Club. This is to ensure that all ride leaders are fully covered by the Club insurance. I must remind all members that if we are not taking part in a Club organised group activity that the two household rule will still apply. Thank you all for your continued support of Hafren CC and we all look forward to meeting up and getting out together on our bikes again!

The system for the foreseeable future is as follows:

Numbers will be limited in order that social distancing can be maintained at all times and participants will have to pre book with the appropriate ride leader.  In order to ensure ride leaders are covered by the Club insurance rides are limited to members or riders riding within the ‘try before you join’ scheme.

Riders will be required to provide their name, ‘phone number and email address on a piece of paper when attending  a ride and must self assess before leaving home and be able to affirm to the ride leader that they have done so.  If they are unable to do so they will not be able to take part in the ride.  These forms will be collected and retained for 21 days.  Self assessment includes checking that you, or anyone in your household, do not have any of the following symptoms:  a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of a sense of smell or taste.

The ride will start promptly at a pre arranged time and waiting at the meeting area should be kept to a minimum whilst abiding by current social distancing rules.

Riders should be self sufficient, carrying a method of tyre inflation, at least one inner tube (recommended two), two or three tyre levers, multi tool, mobile ‘phone and card or cash.

If, after the ride, you present with any of the above symptoms you must immediately contact the ‘Test, Trace and Protect Service’ and provide them with the ride leaders contact details.

I know that all of this seems a little heavy handed but it is for our own safety, for the protection of ride leaders and to protect the good name of Hafren CC. Please remember that we need to be seen to be doing the right thing whilst wearing the red and white of Hafren.
