Well it was that time of year again when the Hafren Cycling Club kicks off its Time Trial season with the infamous Dolfor Hill climb.  The 4 mile route starts just outside Newtown and steadily climbs the A483 until it reaches Dolfor.

Hill climbs tend to bring most riders out in a cold sweat; however this year saw a record 31 riders tackle the brutal climb … testing riders like no other race,  Suffering is what it’s all about … struck with nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, burning limbs and blurred vision, all riders gave it their all.

Conditions were dry on the day with a slight tail wind “apparently” and some solid performances were logged none more so than the winning time of junior “Tyler Brennan” in a time of 12:58 and setting a new course record in the process.  Adam Owen pushed Tyler all the way, narrowly missing out on the top spot by 6 seconds with Bryn Davies taking 3rd in a time of 13:47.

The next 6 riders, being Rob Fisher, Paul Bufton, Graham Harris, Medwyn Jones, Ian Coe and Alun Roberts, all came in within a minute of Bryn’s time with Lee Shackleton making up the top ten and all finishing in under 15 minutes.

The Time Trial season kicks off in earnest on the 7th May as they head back down onto the relative flat with the 12.5 mile route in Newtown.

With loads of new riders giving it a go, it looks as though it’s going to be another exciting season ahead.
