Calf Burner

Round 1 – Welsh Cyclo Cross League Three Hafren boys made the trek down to Cwmbran to fly the red and white flag on the season opener, in three different age categories. An interesting and challenging course was laid on by the promoting club Cardiff JIF at Llantarnam High School. Essentially the course was fast with technical sections through the wooded areas to navigate, complete with uphill run sections hence the name “Calf Burner”. First up was

MSW Cyclocross Sundorne

Three Hafren riders took on the second round of the Midlands CX series at Sundorne Circuit, Shrewsbury. The weather held off and the riders were treated to a good mix of fast tarmac, twisty technical sections in the woodland and some short technical ascents and descents. Max Bufton was first up in the u10's race, in his 1sr ride for HCC. An anxious mum and dad looked on as he lined in a field of 68 riders. No need to worry though as he was soon off and r...

Welsh Cyclocross season

The Welsh Cyclocross season is looming and some of us are already planning to take part in the season. Hafren CC are also hosting a round in Newtown which would be an ideal chance to try it. Below is a bit of an intro this type of racing:- What is Cyclo-Cross? Cyclo-cross is off-road cycle racing on grass and tracks, up and down banks, on a circuit of up to one mile in length. It is usually held in public parks or on sports fields and is technicall...

March 2014 Training Camp – Majorca

Hi Everyone, A number of you have expressed a desire in getting in some early season miles and I am posting this to gauge interest before I book-up. After what has been a few years away from early season training in warmer weather, I have decided that it's about time I gave it another go. I have really missed the miles, the fun and warmth that goes along with such a trip. My plan is to go over to Majorca in mid-March next year, this in my experien...

PRUDENTIAL RIDE LONDON 100

Rob Finch's thoughts on what turned out to be a memorable day of cycling....... Well, I entered this event back in March of this year during what was a really bad period of back pain, (due to a severely slipped disc - at the L5/S1 Level for those who like all the detail). I've cycled for 40+ years, but I really needed something to work towards and cycling (thankfully) had been recommended by the spinal specialist at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital as a su

HAFREN ROAD RACE CANCELLED!!

HAFREN CC ROAD RACE CANCELLED!! Despite all our best efforts to advertise our inaugural LVRC road race and bring a new event to the LVRC calendar, entries have unfortunately fallen well below what was required to provide a credible race for 2013. In view of this it's hugely regrettable, but we have been forced to cancel the event for this year. We would not have been able to put on a good days racing for those who had entered and the club would have al

We are part of something BIG!!!! (Thanks from Welsh Cycling)

Dear Hafren CC, We’re delighted to announce that club affiliation has today reached record-breaking figures in Wales, exceeding the big 100 milestone.  As of today, there are 103 clubs and teams officially registered across the country. It means there are now more opportunities in Wales than ever before, for anyone, of any age and ability to get on a bike locally - be it for fun or competition - in every discipline of the sport. This achievement ...

Fixing Bolts and Rabbits – Race report MSW Sundorne Circuit Race.

Opening yet another chapter in Hafren's saga of sheared fixing bolts, at tonight's BC event in Shrewsbury, it was Coe Jr's turn to snap one, this time a seat post clamp.  The Hafren boys turned to Dave Mellor, in their hour of need (10 minutes before the start), he generously loaned a rather shiny mountain bike quick release clamp which sufficed. All four Hafren members (Max, George, Ian, and Mike) made it safely to the start line.  The race started in ...
