On Saturday the 30th March, Shrewsbury Sports Village was the venue for race 2 in the West Midlands Circuit Series which was being promoted by Wolverhampton Wheelers. Luke Grivell-Mellor of the Rapha Condor JLT team returned to his boyhood circuit to narrowly take the win in the main race ahead of James Locker in a sprint finish.

Local interest however was in the category 4 race where the father and son rivalry of Ian and George Coe of the Newtown and Welshpool based cycling club Hafren CC took to the start line. Ian rode a near textbook race, maintaining a top 10 spot for the first 33 laps, only for him to slip off the pace in the final few laps as the tempo soared. At the front of the field, it was an extremely tight race with Jimmy Kershaw of the Mid Shrophsire Wheelers taking the win following a late breakaway. George however was well placed in the pursuing pack, crossing the line 7th overall in his first race.

Despite being called George COW (not Coe) on the results page, this early promise suggests they could get used to his name as the series continues. Well done lads!
