Requests have been received from members that the club should consider donating to a local charity impacted by Coronavirus and the lockdown.

This has been carefully considered by the committee in regard to the constitutional position of the club in using funds in this way, the impact on the club’s financial reserves and the response of the club’s membership to such a request as well as the broader issues faced by charities at this time.

After careful consideration of the issues the committee agreed to make a contribution of £500 to Hope House Children’s Hospices. The charity sector has been particularly adversely affected by the lockdown as so many fundraising events, vital for their sustainability, have been lost this year.

The club actively supports Hope House by entering its fundraising bike rides and the committee agreed that a contribution would be an appropriate alternative at this difficult time.

We have been in contact with Hope House to see if there is an opportunity to generate some publicity around this. Lockdown restrictions prevent us from the traditional presentation of an oversize cheque, but both the club and the charity would benefit from telling the story to a wider audience.

If any members would like to represent the club in making the presentation the please e-mail chair@hafren.cc

Any such presentation would have to adhere to government guidance and we will work closely with Hope House on this.

Any press release we issue in regard to this will also include any stories from club membership of COVID 19 fundraising activities.  If you have been involved in any of these some details for the press release would be helpful. Please send anything relevant to chair@hafren.cc.
