Both Mike Filek and Rob Finch represented HCC at the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers  circuit races on Sunday 21st.

Held on the Sundorne closed cycle circuit in Shrewsbury, the event was open to veteran riders (over 40’s) and run under LVRC regulations.

Mike competed in the first race for A,B & C category riders (40 – 54yrs) and in an event run over an hour and a quarter plus 1 lap. As with most circuit races the action was fast and furious from the off, but despite many attacks it all came down to a bunch sprint. Mike hung in there to the end and finished 10th overall, but 7th best in his category.

Rob took part in the following event for D category riders and older (55yrs +). The action ‘exploded’ on lap 1 as local Mid-Shropshire riders who were familiar with the circuit set a fast pace. By the end of the first 5 laps only 12 riders remained at the front of the race. Not his preferred racing discipline Rob however managed to keep with the leaders. No riders managed to get more than 50mtrs off the front before being brought back and it all came down to a final group sprint. Two riders however crashed on the final bend which ruined any chances Rob may have had in the sprint, but a top 10 placing was still pretty satisfying after such a fast race.

Next outing for HCC veteran racers is the LVRC event at Chester on 28th July. Already entered are Filek, Finch, Keith Hughes and Ian Coe.
