After hosting round 8 of the Parker series the previous week in Welshpool, the Hafren CC time trial series headed back over to Newtown for the 12.5 mile route.

24 riders took to the start line for what proved to be a quick night, with many of the riders improving on their previous PB’s. Graham Harris has consistently been knocking on the door for a number one spot all season and he finally achieved that feat with a winning time of 30.47. He didn’t scrape the win either, beating Medwyn Jones into second by a whopping 35 seconds and beating his previous best by 46 seconds in the process.  Steve Owen also kept up his good form for the season taking 3rd place in a time of 31.40 but he was pushed all the way by an improving Paul Bufton who crossed the line only 7 seconds back in 4th. If Graham’s improvement was impressive, Paul managed to knock 76 seconds off his previous time, proving those hill sets are paying dividends! Bryn Davies also continues to show you don’t need a TT bike and a pointy helmet to be quick, crossing the line in 5th in a time of 32.28.

In the ladies race, Julie Frost continued the PB theme taking the win ahead of Dian Paul and in the process knocking a whopping 15 seconds shy of 5 minutes of her previous time.

In the junior section, Morgan Hill maintained his strong start to his maiden season taking 13th overall on the night, pushing Robbie Howells into second place.

Next week’s TT is in Welshpool on the 26th June and will see the return of the 25 mile course for the one and only time in the 2013 season, starting and finishing in Guilsfield.
