There seems to be almost no stopping Bryn Davies at the moment as the Hafren CC rider made it eight wins from 10 events in the SB Sports Injuries Series. Held on a glorious morning, the second North Shropshire Wheelers 25 held on the Prees – Battlefield course showed the quality of Davies’ performance as he was the only rider to beat the hour on the lumpy out and back course. Davies stopped the watch on 58 minutes 58 seconds to extend his Series lead to 62 points having taken 186 from the maximum 200 available despite not quite reaching his top form. He explained: “I was pleased to get the win again, a couple of minutes down on last time though. I seemed a struggle to achieve top speed. Still, it was good to get the win. Thanks again to the marshals and organisers, well run as always“.

Davies also took victory in the Veterans Championship with an excellent +7:28 and extended his lead to 58 points as a result. The victory on the day came against the same rider in both Overall and Veterans Championships – Ian Nisbett. Nisbett made it a Hafren CC 1-2 with an excellent 1:00:39 to push out North Shropshire Wheelers’ best finisher Richard Kay by exactly a minute into third place; and recorded +6:00 in the Veterans to see off Nova Raiders’ Andy Rose by 37 seconds. A delighted Nisbett commented: “Conditions were good, so I was expecting some fast times – but somehow it didn’t pan out that way and I think everyone found the course a challenge on the day. I was pleased to go faster than my last outing on the same course, although I did fade a little on the final run in. A great ride by Bryn again, and more success for Hafren CC which is great“.

Nisbett moved into the Top 10 in the Veterans’ Championship for the first time and lifted himself up to fifth in the Overall Championship as a result of this ride, but he wasn’t the only rider to consolidate his position with Rose elevating himself the third in each Championship thanks to his 1:02:15 effort which converted to +5:23 in Veterans’ Standard. The Nova Raider commented: “I was very pleased with my race on a tough lumpy course, especially as my legs felt tired after breaking the hour for the first time in the Cyclotherapy Shropshire Championship 25 three days earlier. A big thank you to the officials also“.

Davies wasn’t the only rider consolidating a big lead however as Tracey Billington added 20 points to her tally in the Ladies Championship. Unusually Billington rode unchallenged on the morning, stretching her lead to 68 points thanks to having no fear of the more challenging courses with a 1:22:29 effort. She stated: “It was a lovely day, great scenery, fabulous encouragement from the men during the race but I had no energy. I am glad that I bagged another 20 points, although I had no competition from any other ladies was slightly disappointing“.
