Tim Beardmore took a maiden win and elevated himself twenty points closer to the lead of the SB Sports Injuries Series in Round 11, the Nova Raiders 10. With the club’s normal Newport – Hortonwood course being out of commission due to road works the Waters Upton – Hodnet course was used as back up – though with disappointing conditions affecting times. Beardmore stopped the watch on 23 minutes 3 seconds to push out the promoting clubs’ Scott Harris by 12 seconds, also taking victory in the Veterans Championship in +3:15 by just three seconds from the same challenger.

The Bridgnorth CC rider knew he had to put in a shift to fend off Harris – and to eat into the lead of Series leader Bryn Davies who later admitted he had forgotten the event was on! He explained: “It wasn’t a fast night, I had to dig really deep as I thought it would be close between Scott and me, so I was very happy to get the win. A big thanks to Nova and the timekeepers“.

Meanwhile Harris not only had Beardmore in his sights but a number of club mates in his rear view mirror as he finished best placed amongst the promoting club in 23:15, seeing off Dave Owen by 15 seconds. Harris looks to be coming into form and took the opportunity to score big, explaining: “It was not as fast as I wanted, but it was good to get some points. Well done to Tim, and good to see another good turnout by the Raiders

Meanwhile Owen’s third place overall guaranteed him the highest tally of points he has scored in this Series thanks to a 23:30 ride – despite it being tricky to hold the time trial position due to injury. He explained: “I’ve been struggling with a bad back for couple of weeks now so was quite pleased with the time on a non-fast night“.

With Harris taking the runner-up spot in the Veterans Series with +3:12 it was a different name in third spot, with club mate Andy Rose taking full advantage of cementing his third place standing in this Series with +2:50. This just pushed Owen into fourth by a slim two seconds despite having had time off the bike. Rose explained: “I was pleased with the time, I felt a bit rusty though as I hadn’t raced for a week. Thanks to all those that volunteered on the night“.

But ride of the evening came in the Ladies Series with Jane Chapman shocking herself with a first ever win – and a Personal Best. Chapman has seen her times tumble as the season has progressed and her 26:56 effort saw her beat 2-Up partner Jenny Newton into the runner-up spot by a good margin of 21 seconds. Training runs with faster riders as well as the 2-Up have played their part in this improvement, with Chapman commenting: “I was pleased and surprised with the time that I did, and I actually enjoyed it! Thank you for everyone there who helped to make it possible“.
