Craig Ball took a narrow win by just six seconds in Round 12 of the SB Sports Injuries Series – and surprised himself by moving up to third place in the overall standings as a result. The Wrekinsport CC Gordon Davies 18 was held on the simple out and back course of Eyton – Hodnet, with SCCA Private Member Ball helping himself to that win in 41 minutes 46 seconds, just seeing off the previous evening’s Round 11 winner Tim Beardmore. Ball stated: “I was slightly surprised to win! It’s my local course, so thanks to the organisers who come out each week and put on the event“.

But Ball wasn’t finished there as he took the runner-up spot in the Veteran’s competition too in +6:00 to move up to fourth spot in the standings after Nova Raiders’ Ian Pollard scored and excellent win in this Championship in +6:41. Pollard was delighted with coming into form declaring himself: “Super happy with the ride“. He went on: “Conditions suited me, I am happy to be showing a bit of form at last“.

Beardmore meanwhile was another rider who went home with a smile on his face, settling for the overall runner-up spot and third Veteran with 41:52 and +5:54 respectively. The Bridgnorth CC rider was taking the opportunity to make up ground on Bryn Davies, leader in both these Series, closing to 24 points adrift overall and 22 points in the Veterans’ Championship. Another rider finding late season form, Beardmore revealed: “I was really pleased  with how my race went, my pacing was spot on. I am very happy with the result. An awesome ride by Polly to take the Veterans win, thanks to all involved“.

With a 22-strong field there were a number of very strong riders in competition – with Alex Leek joining the ranks of those recording better times than they thought taking third spot overall. SCCA Private Member Leek just pushed out Nova Raiders’ Scott Harris by two seconds with a fine effort of 42:13 – and revealed that he overcame rustiness in doing so. He commented: “I was really surprised to get third place. I’ve not been on my time trial bike much recently, it felt like riding though treacle, but I guess it must have been a tough night for everyone. Thanks to Wrekinsport for putting it on“.

It was a two-way battle in the Ladies with Wrekinsport’s Emma Robinson taking the win in a fine 49:38, pushing club mate Emily Beebee into runner-up spot in 55:13. Robinson lifted herself into the runner-up spot in the Ladies Championship on the strength of this ride and commented: “Conditions weren’t bad, quite damp on some of the route, but overall I had a good race“.

Meanwhile 16 year-old Sam Morris extended his lead in the Junior Championship with a fine ride of 44:11, good enough for 10th spot overall on the night. The Revolutions Racing rider has opened up a 60 point lead in this Championship but had mixed feelings about his ride, revealing: “I flew out to the island but felt rubbish coming back. I was happy to have hung on for a quick time! Great to stretch the Series lead too“.
