A sunny and dry evening with a light breeze enabled 43 riders to enjoy what is probably the best conditions seen for a Hafren CC time trial this season. The last event on this course two weeks ago saw strong winds and cold conditions, so it was great to see winter clothing banished and shorts and short sleeved jerseys very much the order of the day.
Round 4 of the 14 round season long Hafren series saw 25 Hafren riders take to the line, but this event also formed part of the SB Sports Injuries Series (Round 6), which is held under the banner of the Shropshire Cycle Clubs Association. Hafren CC were therefore pleased to welcome 15 riders from other local clubs and a further 3 newcomers who were trying out time-trialling for the first time.
Fastest rider on the night was Simon Harrison of Mid-Shropshire Wheelers whose 22 minutes 24 seconds topped Matt Davies of the Paramount club by 18 seconds, whilst in third a further 16 seconds in arrears was Alex Leek of the Wrekinsport club.
Fastest Hafren rider was again Pete Thomas who recorded his third club championship win of the year!! His 23 minutes 36 seconds was fast enough for 7th in the SB Sports Injuries Series, but as far as Hafren honours were concerned he beat improving veteran Graham Harris by just 6 seconds. Medwyn Jones rounded out the Hafren podium a further 18 seconds behind.
For the first time this year 5 ladies rolled up to the start line with visiting rider Jenny Newton of the Evolve Team taking top spot in 27 minutes 36 seconds to win the SB Sports Injuries round.
In the Hafren ladies championship Jackie Harris topped the podium in 29 minutes 46 seconds, closely followed by Sahrah Wilding (30:23) and Louise Downward (30:34).

The next Hafren CC event is the Newtown 12.5 mile Time Trial on 27th May.
Sign-on is in the Town Centre Car Park, Newtown from 6:15 – 6:45 pm. First rider off at 7:00pm
